das hatten wir verdammt geschickt angestellt, uns mal schnell in die frühlingshafte TOSKANA zu verdrücken, während sturmtief niklas in deutschland für ungemütliche stimmung sorgte. wir hatten für unseren osterurlaub auf ein bisschen sonne gehofft und wir bekamen… sonne satt! dafür nahmen wir dann sogar die 1300 kilometer mit dem auto in kauf. schließlich gilt: je südlicher, deso mehr frühling! das hob dann auch ganz eindeutig die laune bei der langen autofahrt. einmal durchatmen und freuen, bitte!
wasn’t it so clever to escape to springlike TUSCANY while a stormy low with the name “niklas” blew over germany? yes it was. we hoped for a little bit of sunshine for our easter holidays and what we got, was a whole lot of it! the sunny perspective really kept us motivated to drive the long 800 miles from home. but the more we got to the south the more it looked like spring. time to take a deep breath and be happy!
unser ziel war die CHIANTI region. {ob es für uns eigentliche wein-banausen hier auch mal ein bier zum essen geben würde?} in den späten abendstunden, es war längst dunkel, kamen wir dann in RADDA in CHIANTI an dem {gott sei dank} noch geöffneten büro an, wo wir den schlüssel für unser feriendomizil in MONTEBUONI in empfang nehmen sollten. alles klappte wunderbarerweise auch zu dieser späten stunde wie am schnürchen. doch wir hatten hunger und es war schon spät, also musste unser toskanisches haus noch ein bisschen auf uns warten. erst einmal nämlich stoppten wir in radda am ersten restaurant, an dem wir vorbeikamen. das ist ja das wunderbare in italien… man braucht nicht unbedingt einen restaurant-tipp. man stoplert einfach in irgendeine trattoria, osteria oder in ein ristorante und es wird mit sehr hoher wahrscheinlichkeit großartig schmecken! mit diesem urvertrauen saßen wir also kurze zeit später im ristorante LA BOTTA DI BACCO am tisch. wir hatten ja nicht reserviert – logischerweise. aber nach kurzem warten man fand im proppenvollen laden einen platz für uns hungrige reisende. wir wurden nicht enttäuscht, denn in diesem restaurant wurde ausschließlich hausgemachte pasta und selbstgebackenes brot serviert. wenn man mal von den bauchweh absieht, das die eineinhalb tüten weingummi während der fahrt beim fräulein verursacht hatten, war das wirklich der perfekte einstand in unseren toskana-urlaub.
the CHIANTI region was our final destination. {we were wondering if we wine philistines would also get a beer for dinner there? only once in a while of course.}. when we arrived pretty late in the evening we were glad to find the office, where we had to pick up our keys for our holiday home in MONTEBUONI, still open. it was located in RADDA in CHIANTI. everything went swimmingly, but it was late and we were very hungry. so we just stopped at the first ristorante we came by. well this really is the wonderful thing about italy… you actually don’t need any where-to-eat-tips. you simply walk into the next trattoria, osteria or

als wir dann am späten abend im dunkeln über die üblichen toskanischen schleichwege {wenn ihr schon mal mit dem auto in der toskana unterwegs wart, wisst ihr, was ich meine} an unserem ferienhaus ankamen, fielen wir nach ein paar begeisterten ahhhs und ohhhs vor allem erst einmal ins bett. die ausgiebiege begutachtung und erkundung musste bis zum nächsten morgen warten. und dieser morgen war wie aus dem bilderbuch! die sonne schien durch die fensterläden und draußen summten die bienen wie verrückt um die blühenden rosmarin-hecken herum. ja, hecken! was wir hier im norden gern als mickiges topfkraut zu stehen haben, haben die italiender dann eben mal als wegbegrenzende hecke am laufenden meter. die welt ist ungerecht. luzie war völlig aus dem häuschen und triumphierte, weil sie wider meiner mütterlichen bekleidungsberatung eben doch den halben koffer mit sommerlichen t-shirts gefüllt hatte. herr p. plädierte glücklich für ein frühstück im freien und ich war einfach nur selig.
so when we arrived late at night at our vacation home after driving the typical tuscan “secret paths” {if you ever travelled the tuscany by car, you know what i’m talking about} we almost immediately fell into our beds. after some enthusiastic ahhhs and ohhhs of course! we postponed all explorations on the next morning. and that morning was like fresh from a picture book! sun beams came through the window shutters and bees were humming like crazy about the blooming rosemary hedges. yes, hedges! while north-german people have rinky-dink rosemary plants in little pots, the italian people have yard-long rosemary fences beside their paths. life isn’t always fair. well, that morning the fräulein was crowing over me as she had filled up half of her suitcase with summer t-shirts… against my motherly clothes-packing advice. mr. p. happily suggested to have our breakfast outside in the sun… und i just felt blessed.
unser feriendomizil war das LA VIGNA im dorf MONTEBUONI. {wenn ihr auf den link klickt, dann könnt ihr auch noch ganz viele bilder aus dem inneren unseres wunderschönen hauses sehen. ich selbst habe, mangels eines weitwinkelobjektivs, leider nicht so viele indoor-fotos gemacht}. bei unserer ankunft hatte ein üppiges starter-paket {das man bei TO-TOSKANA dazu buchen kann} für uns in der wirklich toll ausgestatteten küche bereit gestanden. ein bisschen salami und käse hatten wir erst einmal aus deutschland mitgebracht. ja!!! auch wenn das natürlich wie “eulen nach athen tragen” ist, wenn man urlaub in italien macht! ich weiß. aber wir können nunmal nicht ohne herzhaftes frühstück und wollten ja auch nicht gleich am ersten morgen zum einkaufen rennen müssen. zumal es auch ein sonntag war. allerdings sollten wir noch am selben tag feststellen, dass es im nahegelegenen dorf LECCHI in CHIANTI einen wirklich entzückenden, kleinen tante emma laden gibt, mit allem, was das herz so begehrt. sogar mit einer bar für den morgendlichen espresso der dorfbewohner! aber erst einmal waren wir ja versorgt für unser frühstück in der warmen sonne, umgeben von olivenbäumen, summenden bienen auf rosmarin hecken und lavendel-büschen! reinster balsam für die seele nach dem scheinbar unendlich langen, norddeutschen schmuddelwinter.

cheese from home though. yes!!! it is like “”carrying coals to newcastle” when you travel to italy! i know. but anyway… we cann’t do without savory breakfast and we actually didn’t want to search for some place to shop groceries on our very first day. particularly as it was a sunday. soon we would find out that there was a cute little store at the next village LECCHI in CHIANTI. a really lovely shop where you an buy almost everything and were the local people have their esspresso in the morning at a tiny bar. but first we enjoyed the warm sunshine at our private breakfast table in the garden. we were surrounded by olive trees, humming bees on rosemary bushes and lavender hedgerows. pure balm for our souls after a long and grey north-german icky weather.

nach dem frühstück {während dem wir schon das erste mal sonnencreme auftragen mussten}, machten wir uns auf erkundungstour durch “unser” kleines MONTEBUONI. das dorf liegt auf einem hügel, umgeben von chianti-weinbergen, olivenhainen und mit einem traumhaften blick über die grüne toskanische landschaft. die malerischen natursteinhäuser sind zum teil feriendomizile für touristen, aber auch ferienhäuser in privatem besitz. autos sind hier nicht erlaubt, sie müssen auf dem parkplatz vor dem dorf bleiben. die athmosphäre ist wunderbar entspannt!
after our sunny breakfast {we even had to use suncreen!} we went for a walk to explore “our” little MONTEBUONI. the village is located on a hill with a breathtaking view over chinati vineyards, olive groves and the green tuscan landscape. some of the picturesque stone cottages are holiday homes for tourists. others are privately owned by locals who spend leisure time there. there are no cars allowed. they have to stay outside of the village. so the athmosphere is absolutely and perfectly relaxed!
zum montebuoni-anwesen gehören nicht nur lauschige picknick-plätzchen im grünen und ein tennisplatz für freizeit-boris und -steffis, sondern auch ein gemeinschaftlicher pool mit sonnenliegen. dieser war jetzt ende märz freilich noch ein bisschen sehr kalt zum planschen. die temperatur hätte bestimmt einen hartgesottenen nordsee-schwimmer micht von einem bad abgehalten. soll heißen – uns sehrwohl! aber… für uns frostködel, gehörte zu unserem LA VIGNA ja ein beheizter jacuzzi! nur für uns ganz alleine. ha!
we found lovely picnic spots at the montebuoni estate and a tennis court for all free time boris’ and steffis. moreover there was a beautiful pool and deck chairs for all the vacationers to use. at that time, end of march, the water was pretty chilly though. it wouldn’t keep a hard-boildes north sea swimmer from plunging in… but us! well… we chilly bones preferred the private {and heated!} jacuzzi that belonged to our LA VIGNA house. reserved for us only. ha!
das fräulein war so ziemlich im teenager himmel, wie man sehen kann. was für ein osterferien-luxus! aber so himmlisch dieses fleckchen toskanische erde mittem im chianti auch war, haben wir natürlich nicht unsere komplette zeit hier verbracht. während luzie im blubberbad plantschte, machten wir schon pläne. ihr wisst ja, wir haben immer hummeln im hintern. MONTEBUONI war eben nicht nur ein wunderbares ferienzuhause, sondern auch ein toller ausgangspunkt für diverse tagesaufflüge in das toskanische umland und seine wunderschönen städte. von hier aus haben wir SIENA, FLORENZ, LIVORNO, SAN GIMIGNANO und VOLTERRA besucht… aber dazu ein anderes mal mehr… arrivederci!!!
the fräulein found herself in teenager heaven, as you can see. what an amazing easter holiday kind of luxury! but even if this place on earth in midst of the chianti was so heavenly… you know us… we already had itchy feet! so while the miss took her bubbling bath, the mr. and me made plans what to see. because the lovely MONTEBUONI village was also a perfect starting point to explore some beautiful tuscan cities and the amazing landscape by doing day trips. from there we headed off to SIENA, FLORENCE, LIVORNO, SAN GIMIGNANO and VOLTERRA… so stay tuned for more stories from the tuscany… arrivederci!!!
