bei den kommentaren zum letzten TRAVEL TUESDAY posting beschlich mich wieder einmal der verdacht, dass L.A. einen schlechteren ruf hat, als es verdient. darum möchte ich heute nochmal eine lanze für LOS ANGELES brechen! es hat nämlich viel mehr zu bieten als hollywood-oberflächlichkeit und schickilacki rodeo drive getue…
looking at the comments on my last TRAVEL TUESDAY posting i got the feeling that L.A.’s reputation is worse than it deserves to be. so i’d like to take up the dudgels for LOS ANGELES today! it has so much more to offer than hollywood shallowness and superfancy in-crowd rodeo drive fuss…
… das GETTY CENTER zum beispiel! der beeindruckende gebäudekomplex des architekten RICHARD MEIER aus kalkstein und glas in den BRENTWOOD hills thront hoch über der city mit einem atemberaubenden ausblick. für architektur-liebhaber ist es ein wahrgewordener traum in weiß. sofort schockverliebt war ich in die skulptur BOY WITH FROG von CHARLES RAY.
… the GETTY CENTER for example! the amazing stone and glass and building complex built by architekt RICHARD MEIER is located in the BRENTWOOD hills overlooking the city in the most awesome way. for lovers of achitecture it’s like a dream that came true all in white. arriving the place i was instantly smitty by CHARLES RAY’S sculpure BOY WITH FROG.
der eintritt zum getty center und zu allen ausstellungen ist übrigens frei, lediglich eine parkgebühr ist zu zahlen. eine schienenbahn bringt einen vom parkhaus hinauf zum museum.
admission to the getty center and all of it’s exhibitions is free by the way, you only have to pay a parking fee at the entrance. a train takes you from the parking lot to the museum.
der tag war perfekt für einen besuch. wir waren mit NANCY [fledge flying is easy] und ihrer unglaublich süßen tochter ANNA unterwegs und hatten spaß. kein wölkchen trübte den blauen himmel, der all das weiß noch viel mehr strahlen ließ. alle farben, alle linien kamen mir an diesem tag fast unnatürlich klar vor. unglaublich schön.
the day was more than perfect. we enjoyed our time together with NANCY [fledge flying is easy] and her adorable daughter ANNA. the sky was cloudless and all that blue even brightened up the white of the building. the colors and the lines seemed so unnatural crisp that day. it was just amazing.
das kunstsammlung des GETTY MUSEUMS gehört zu den umfangreichsten der welt, ursprünglich zusammengetragen vom öl-magnaten und milliardär JEAN PAUL GETTY. neben der daueraustellung [die die SCHWERTLILIEN von VAN GOGH beinhaltet!], gibt es zahlreiche tempöräre austellungen. wir sahen faszinierende KUBA FOTOGRAFIE von walker evans und eine unglaubliche kollektion an französischen möbeln, kleidern und luxusgegenständen unter dem titel PARIS: LIFE & LUXURY.
the art collection of the GETTY MUSEUM is surely one of the comprehensive in the world. it was originally carried together by the oil-tycoon and billionaire JEAN PAUL GETTY. besides the permanent exhibit [including the iris by VAN GOGH!] the museum comes up with temporary exhibitions that are beyond awesome. we saw stunning CUBA PHOTOGRAPHY by walker evans and a collection of french furniture, clothes and luxury items at the PARIS: LIFE & LUXURY exhibition.
trotz der beeindruckenden exponate, ertappte ich mich allerdings immer wieder bei dem gedanken, dass der eigentliche star des getty centers die hinreißende architektur und der traumhaft angelegte garten ist.
though despite all the impressing exhibits, i really felt that the star of the getty center is the architecture itself and also the wonderful garden.
man fühlt sich ein bisschen wie alice im wunderland unter den großen “bougainvillea schirmen” und beim blick auf das buchsbaum-labyrinth.
you feel a bit like alice in wonderland under the giant, shady “bougainvillea umbrellas” and looking at the box tree labyrinth.
der GARTEN [entworfen von ROBERT IRWIN] stahlt eine unglaubliche ruhe aus und läd den besucher zum verweilen und ausruhen ein. ich fand ihn wunderbar.
the GARDEN [designed by ROBERT IRWIN] radiates an athmosphere of calmness and invites the visitor to rest a little. i really loved it.
wer die traumhafte aussicht nicht nur bei tag genießen möchte, sondern den sonnenuntergang über L.A beobachten möchte, der sollte seinen besuch an einem samstag planen, denn dann hat das museum bis 21:00 uhr geöffnet. alle ÖFFNNGSZEITEN könnt ihr übrigens HIER nachschauen.
if you do not only want to enjoy the marvelous view by day but see the sunset over L.A., you should plan your visit on saturdays. the getty center is open until 9 p.m. then. check out more details about the OPENING HOURS here.
wie alle haben den tag sehr genossen, aber das nächste mal möchte ich auch noch den sonnenuntergang sehen. unbedingt.
we all enjoyed that day at the getty a lot. but the next time i really want to see the sunset as well. unconditionally.
ihr wisst ja, ich finde immer einen grund, warum ich an einen platz den ich sehr mochte zurückkehren muss…
as you probably know by now, i always find a reason to return to a place i loved…
