… früher oder später ist das jeder, der die NIAGARA FÄLLE besucht. von TORONTO aus fuhren wir etwa eineinhalb stunden, denn natürlich wollten wir uns die gigantischen wasserfälle auf keinen fall entgehen lassen. vor allem herr P. nicht, denn der ist ein echter wasserfall-junkie.
smurf blue & wet… that’s what everybody is sooner or later when visiting the NIAGARA FALLS. getting from TORONTO to the NIAGARAFALLS took us about one and a half hours. of course we didn’t want to miss the giant waterfalls. especially mr. P. was excited to see then, as he is a real waterfall junkie.

you get closer to the falls and think… whao, these are freaking huge!
man nähert sich noch mehr und denkt… wow, ist das unfassbar nass! es dauert nämlich gar nicht lange und man hat seine kleine, eigene “maid of the mist” dabei.
you get more close and you think…. whao, it’s freaking wet! because it doesn’t take long and you have your own little “maid of the mist” by your side.
reinplumpsen möchte man hier auf keinen fall. die kräfte der natur sind urgewaltig und meine beste freundin hatte mir auch sowieso verboten, für ein hübsches foto mit schirm auf die mauer zu klettern.
you really wouldn’t want to pop in there. the forces of natrure are elemental and my bff had forbidden to climb up on the wall holding an umbrella for a pretty picture anyway.
wir machten uns auf zur ticket-bude und erstanden dreimal den ADVENTURE PASS für die 4 top attraktionen, schließlich wollten wir ja ordentlich was sehen. erwachsene $ 46,95 [wobei man hier schon ab 13 erwachsen ist! ganz schön frühreif, die kanadier…] und kinder $ 34,95. wir stellten fest, man muss nicht alles gesehen haben. aber hinterher ist man ja immer schlauer.
so hielt ich persönlich unsere erste attraktion,
NIAGARA’S FURY, leider für eher flop als top. man sollte die entstehung der niagara fälle hautnah und mit 4D miterleben. die animation war eher mau, ein bisschen unmotiviertes geruckel der plattform… da haben wir das kalben eines gletschers im
ZOOM in gelsenkirchen schon mal viel aufregender und lustiger erlebt. es war schweinekalt und unnötig nass. ein netter platz, um sich eine lungenentzüdung zu holen. familie pimpinella war komplett einer meinung: braucht man wirklich sowas von gar nicht! weils so unspaßig war, hier auch keine fotos davon! ;)
so we went to a ticket booth and got us three ADVENTURE PASSES fot the 4 top attractions of niagara. after all we wanted to see as much as possible around the falls. the price was $ 46,95 for an adult [adult means as of 13 years! canadians seem to be quite early mature..] and children $ 34,95. we found out that we didn’t like all of the tops, but it’s easy to be wise after the event.
we started with
NIAGARA’S FURY, which was more flop than top if you ask me. you could experience the creation of niagara falls in 4D, but the animation was kind of lame … we really had so much more fun experiencing the calving of a glacier at the
ZOOM in gelsenkirchen once. this show was first of all damn cold and quite unnecessarily wet in all that cold. a good climate to catch pneumonia. sorry folks, every member of the pimpinella family said the same afterwards: we didn’t need that! that’s why i have no pictures of that either, by the way! no fun, no pictures. ;)

JOURNEY BEHIND THE FALLS. hört sich leider auch ein bisschen spannender an, als es in wahrheit ist. wer es geschafft hat, ohne klaustrophobische anfälle bis an eins von zwei löchlein schlange zu stehen, hat einen blick auf die wasserfälle von hinten. was dann heißt, dass man mehr hört als man sieht, denn eigentlich sieht man nur eine weiße wand. muss man nicht haben. nun ja, aber immerhin…
this hole was part of the second attraction we saw: the
JOURNEY BEHIND THE FALLS. it sounds a bit more exciting than it is in reality. if you manage to get to one of the two holes like this without getting claustrophobic panic attacks, standing in line in a narow tunnel… you’ll see this. a hole and all white and noise behind. not so whao, but…
… gehört zu diesem programmpunkt auch noch die aussichtsplattform direkt neben und ganz nah an den gigantischen wasserfällen. das war dann schon ein beeindruckendes erlebnis und es hat sich durchaus gelohnt, wie marge simpson auszusehen. ach ja, ich vergaß zu erwähnen, dass an dieser stelle nicht schlumpfblau, sondern simpsongelb die masse dominiert. es sei denn, man hat, wie das fräulein seinen eigenen stylischen regenmantel dabei. [die capes sollen übrigens recycelt und biologisch abbaubar sein – ich hoffe inständig, das stimmt.]
.. you also have access to the platform below the falls. it is quite impressing to stand so near and watch the forces of the water. an experience worth walking around like a marge simpson lookalike. yes, simpson-yellow is dominating smurf-blue here, unless you have your own stylish rain cape with you like the little fräulein. [the capes are recycled and said to be biogradable… i really hope this is true.]

als nächstes freuten wir uns dann alle auf die fahrt auf der
MAID OF THE MIST [besser gesagt auf einer maid of the mist, denn davon gibt es so einige]. die boote sehen so winzig aus, direkt vor den gigantischen wasserfällen im tosenden wasser. man meint, sie müssten fast vom wasser verschlungen werden. ein bisschen mulmig konnte einem da schon zumute werden.
after that we were all excited to take our ride on the
MAID OF THE MIST [at least on one of the maid of the mist boats as they do have many of them]. these boats look so tiny right in front of the giant falls facing elemental forces in the roaring water. you worry, they could be swallowed up by all that water. gives you a queasy but exciting feeling.
die schlange war recht lang, aber es ging dann doch erstaunlich fix, auf eines der boote zu kommen und dann ging die fahrt los. erst einmal vorbei an den amerikanischen fällen. ich will ja nicht frotzeln, aber da haben die amis ein bisschen die a*schkarte gezogen bei der verteilung der niagara fälle. sie taten mir fast ein bisschen leid. ;) aber auch hier geht man als große simpson-familie.
the queue at the entrance was long but however waiting time was tolerable and so we entered the boat surprisingly quick. and off we went. we passed by the amarican falls. don’t want to tease, but the americans really got the short end of the straw when it came to division of the niagara falls. alas! but on that other side they look like a big simpson family, too.
und dann waren sie da! direkt vor uns! mit viel fotografieren is’ jetzt nicht mehr, weil es sich anfühlt als würde man mit einer gigantischen blumenspritze angesprüht… aber ich wäre nicht ich, wenn ich es nicht trotzdem versuchen würde. [notiz an mich selbst für’s nächste mal: kamera in eine klarsicht-plastiktüte packen und nur das vordere teil des objektivs rausschauen lassen. außerdem ein saugfähiges tuch zum linse-trocknen bereit halten!]
and then there they were! right in front of us! it was hard to take pictures, when you feel like somebody is spraying water at you with the biggest spray bottle ever… but i wouldn’t be me if i didn’t try anyway. [note to self: next time put a clear plastic bag with a hole for the lens over your camera and have a cloth right at hand for wiping the lens dry.]
die große schlumpf-familie ist zutiefst beeindruckt von diesen unglaublichen naturgewalten. der kleine kormoran hingegen so gar nicht, der paddelt furchtlos durch die tosenden wassermassen.
the big smurf-family was deeply impressed by these forces of nature. the little sea raven wasn’t at all. dauntless it paddled the roaring water.
diesem schlumpf hier hat das ganze wohl am allermeisten spaß gemacht, mein herr P. im wasserfall-glück! im ernst… die fahrt auf der maid of the mist war für uns wirklich das highlight des tages. wir waren nicht nur zutiefst beeindruckt, wir hatten auch einen heißenspaß bei dem geschaukel vor den fällen. das war wirklich top 1!
this smurf had the most fun of all. my mr P. in waterfall heaven! seriously…. the trip on the maid of the mist was our highlight of the day. it was overwhelming and an awesome fun! it was definitely top1!
es folgte ein kleiner beruhigungsspaziergang… der letzte punkt unseres adventure passes: der
WHITE WATER WALK. einige der wildesten wildwasser stromschnellen bekommt man hier zu sehen, das macht schon ein ordentliches GETÖSE.
after the boat trip we needed a little walk to relax… it was the last attraction on our adventure pass: the
WHITE WATER WALK. you can see some of the wildest whitewater rapids of the world there. what an amazing ROAR.
wir alle drei vier fanden den tag so ziemlich klasse [von dem fury-ding mal abgesehen]. eselchen konnte es dann doch nicht lassen…
we three four really loved that day [except that silly fury part] and eselchen really couldn’t help doing this…
und nachdem ich den ganzen tag darauf gehofft habe, bekam ich ihn dann am schluss auch noch zu sehen… DEN regenbogen. niagara-kitsch as niagara-kitsch can. herrlich.
the whole day i hoped for this, and finally i got to see one… THE rainbow. niagara-kitsch as

P.S. kleiner tipp am rande… das parken an den niagara-fällen kann ganz schön kostspielig sein. da ist man dan schnell nochmal einen extra zwanziger los. es lohnt sich also, im vorfeld nach den günstigen parkmöglichkeiten zu recherchieren, denn die gibt es immerhin auch. wir haben unseren wagen auf dem parkplatz am SKYLON TOWER abgestellt. 5 dollar! da freut sich doch die reisekasse.
P.S a little tip along the way… parking can be quite expensive at niagara falls. it costs up to 20 bucks at some spots, so it’s always worth to check out the parking possibilities in advance. we parked our car at the lot in front of the SKYLON TOWER. 5 bucks! for a happy travel wallet!
